Global Orphan Project’s CarePortal meets the needs of underserved children every day by connecting their families with local resources. And while the families were being well-served, the users of the portal were not having the best experience in making these connections. It was time for the organization to rethink how their portal functioned. I worked on the UX research and strategy team to re-envision this.

Global Orphan Project’s CarePortal Redesign

Reflections.

We discovered how important it was to apply usability heuristics to our user interface design as this helped reduce the amount of friction when it came to producing positive outcomes in our usability testing tasks.

Applying thorough UX research methods and comparative research helped justify our design decisions (such as including the intuitive search bar and determining the appropriate filters for our users).

Finding a range of users for testing proved important - those who possessed different technical savviness and aptitude, as some feature were intuitive to some, but not the others.
